The Psychology Department organized a webinar on 30th April 2021, with special guest, Diethono Nakhro, Nagaland State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

About the Speaker: Diethono Nakhro is a leading voice for disability rights in the state of Nagaland and is presently the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities of the state. As the first disability self-advocate in the state, she has been at the forefront of the Nagaland Disability Rights Movement for the past more than ten years and has been actively working together with other NGOs and DPOs on advocacy and awareness efforts to promote the full inclusion and participation of children and adults with disabilities in every aspect of the community.

One of her priority areas has been to engage with young persons with disabilities and to motivate them to stand up and fight for their rights. She is also associated with national organisations and networks like the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP), NCRPD and NDN to push for policy changes at the centre.

As a wheelchair user, she relentlessly campaigns for accessibility in the built environment and actively strives to draw attention to the complete lack of accessibility in the state. She was appointed as State Disability Commissioner in 2019 and considers it a privilege and an opportunity to set some things right for the disability community in Nagaland.
