Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao (born 17 February 1954)[citation needed] better known and abbreviated as K.C.R., is an Indian politician and the first Chief Minister of Telangana, a new state formed by the division of Andhra Pradesh in 2014. He is the leader and Founder of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, a regional party in India.He is a Member of the Legislative Assembly (Telangana) from the Gajwel constituency of Siddipet District in Telangana. Previously, he served as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (Andhra Pradesh) from Siddipet and also as the Member of Parliament from Mahbubnagar, Karimnagar and Medak. He took oath as the first Chief Minister of the new state of Telangana on 2 June 2014. He went for early elections in 2018, when his cabinet recommended to dissolve the legislative lower house, Nine months before the completion of his term . He again took oath as the Chief Minister of Telangana for the second term on 13th December 2018.
Rao was born to Kalvakuntla Raghava Rao and Venkatamma at Chintalamadaka village of Siddipet Mandal in Medak District on 17 February 1954. He attained a MA degree in Literature from Osmania University, Hyderabad.
KCR started his career with the youth Congress party in Medak district. Later he joined Telugu Desam Party led by NT.Rama Rao.
KCR joined the TDP in 1983 and contested against A.Madan Mohan and lost that election. He won four consecutive Assembly elections from Siddipet 1985 and 1999. From 1987–1988, he worked as Minister of Drought & Relief in N. T. Rama Rao's cabinet. In 1990, he was appointed as TDP convener for Medak, Nizamabad, and Adilabad districts. In 1996, he worked as Transport minister in Chandrababu Naidu's cabinet. He also served as the deputy speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly from 2000–2001.
KCR was sworn in as the first chief minister of the Telangana state at 12.57 pm on 2 June 2014. Rao, a staunch believer in astrology, numerology and Vaastu, is reported to have fixed this time for his inauguration as per the advice of priests to suit his lucky number ‘six’.KCR was re-elected 8 times as TRS president

His welfare programs are aimed at reviving the rural economy and are focused on the development of each community. An intensive household survey, Samagra Kutumba Survey (SKS) was done in a single day on 19 August 2014 across the state to arrive at citizen information for rolling out welfare programs. The data collected pertaining to 94 parameters, covered one crore four lakh households in the State.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao completed four years in office on Friday. KCR’s unique administrative skills and political acumen brought many laurels to the newly formed Telangana in the country. The balance maintained in the allocation of funds for welfare and developmental programmes in every financial year were already yielding desirable results.

Besides consolidating his position politically by strengthening his party and floating the idea of Federal Front, KCR has put his own mark in the administration by introducing a slew of first of its kind schemes in the country in Telangana.

Mission Kakatiya, Mission Bhagiratha, Kaleshwaram Project and the just-launched Rythu Bandhu and Rs 5 lakh Insurance scheme for the farming community are the jewels in KCR’s crown in his four-year dispensation. These flagship programmes drew national attention many other states emulated KCR by adopting his schemes.

Apart from fulfilling the promises made by him in 2014 election manifesto, the TRS supremo introduced many schemes like Rythu Bandhu, insurance scheme, KCR Kits, etc aiming to wipe out the problems of farming community and other poorer sections permanently.

The Aasara pension scheme launched by KCR in 2014 had given social security to more than 39 lakh poor in the state. The total expenditure incurred on the pension scheme has been increased to Rs 5,400 crore in 2018 from Rs 2,100 crore in 2014-15. Old aged, handicapped, widows, weavers, beedi workers, Aids patients, single woman and toddy tappers were covered under the scheme.

The latest Rythu Bandhu scheme under which farmer will get Rs 8,000 per annum per acre attracted national attention.
