HIPPOPOTAMUS

After the elephant and rhinoceros, the hippopotamus is the third-largest type of land mammal and the heaviest extant artiodactyl in the traditional, non-cladistic sense of the term, not including cetaceans. Despite their physical resemblance to pigs and other terrestrial even-toed ungulates, the closest living relatives of the Hippopotamidae are cetaceans (whales, dolphins, porpoises, etc., from which they diverged about 55 million years ago. Hippos are recognisable by their barrel-shaped torsos, wide-opening mouths revealing large canine tusks, nearly hairless bodies, columnar legs and large size; adults average 1,500 kg (3,310 lb) for males and 1,300 kg (2,870 lb) for females. Despite its stocky shape and short legs, it is capable of running 30 km/h (19 mph) over short distances.
One of the most dangerous and fierce animals in the animal kingdom is actually the hippopotamus. Their size, strength and aggressiveness makes them a formidable opponent against most animalsHippos are dangerous creatures and are the animals responsible for more human deaths than other animals, even crocodiles. The common hippo has really thick skin, several inches thick in places and as tough as rubber, so it’s hard to pierce their hides. They also have an impressive bite force with really large teeth. The canines of a hippo are self-sharpening and are over a foot long each, and the pressure at each one of their canines is about 450 pounds per square in Hippos can defend themselves in a variety of ways. Surprisingly for their size, they’re speedy runners, hitting top speeds of around 30 miles per hour, so they can flee from threats. That said they don’t often run from a fight as they can take on most predators.

LION VS HIPPO

You might be wondering who would win in a fight between a hippo and a lion? In most cases, the hippo still wins. The exception may be if a pride of lions attacks a single hippo. Even then, the hippo is significantly larger, capable of moving swiftly on land or in water, and has large teeth to defend itself. If the lions attack in the water, they might also encounter Nile crocodiles, which are quite capable of taking down a lion.lions use their teeth and claws to take down prey. The biggest distinction is that lions often hunt in a pack, while tigers are solitary predators. Typically female lionesses do the majority of the hunting, while the male lion or lions stays back and protects the pride.

In the case of a single lion versus a single hippo, I believe that the hippo would win. You're talking about a ten foot long, three to five thousand animal that stands four to five feet at the shoulder, with three foot mouth that can gape in excess of 180 degrees, that has four tusk like teeth that can measure 18 inches in length going against a six to seven foot long great cat that weighs four to five hundred pounds, and that has three to four inch fangs and two inch claws. (Typical male of each species.)
Under the typical circumstances that these two might meet, the hippo is much larger, much stronger, deceptively quick, and well armored against the lion's fangs and claws. The hippo's jaws are larger and more powerful, and it would be capable of punching it's chisel-like tusks deeply into the lion's torso. The hippo can kill the lion, but the lone lion couldn't do much to harm the hippo mortally.
