Australian journalist Cheng Lei, China there been no reason for the detention of high-profile Australian journalist Cheng Lei,
Trade Minister Simon Birmingham said the reason why high profile Australian journalists with Chinese State Media CGTN, Cheng Lei has been detained in Beijing has not been made clear by Chinese authorities.
Mr. Birmingham told Today the Federal Government is offering consular support to Cheng and her family.
"We are doing everything we can in providing Cheng Lei and her family with assistance through what is no doubt a difficult time for them.
Mr. Birmingham confirmed the Federal Government had been formally told by authorities on August 14 of her detention.
