After NASA's space shuttle was retired in 2011, #Russia had a monopoly on human spaceflight and had previously expressed reservations about flying on the commercial American spacecraft, citing SpaceX's lack of experience. Rogozin claims that this has altered now that SpaceX has performed four successful crewed missions.
Given Rogozin's tense relationship with NASA and, in particular, #SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, this is a dramatic shift in tone. The relationship between them is not rosy at all. Both #Musk and Rogozin have been throwing shades and making snarky comments about each other over the past year.
One such example is Rogozin's post on social media where, while mentioning SpaceX's Starship launch site in Boca Chica, Texas. he stated that "I'm curious if mild SpaceX can work in such a hostile environment?"
On the other hand, Musk had a sarcastic remark of his own earlier in 2020, following his company's successful launch of the first Americans to orbit from American soil since the retirement of the space shuttle program in 2011, under NASA's commercial crew program.
Musk said of his company's Crew Dragon mission aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket in May 2020, "The trampoline is working." The joke was a reference to a 2014 situation in which the US imposed financial penalties on various Russian leaders, including Rogozin, following the Russian invasion of Crimea, which was widely denounced internationally.
